Graphic Violent Images

While on vacation with my husband, I was made aware of some very graphic pictures that were posted on my Facebook wall. Normally I stay on top of these sorts of things and promptly remove them but being that I was at the beach enjoying my family and not on my computer there were several images that remained on my wall for days Due to this problem I was forced to block the ability of others to post via FB on my wall.

I'd like to say a few words on this topic:

I'm not sure what people are trying to accomplish when sharing graphic images of violence towards animals. Have they really thought about what good this does? Seeing a picture of a dog with only half of a face remaining sickens me. Trust me - I understand that people abuse animals. Theres no need to remind me! Trying to evoke anger about abuse in a person who's already an animal lover does nothing to help the problem. I already think that a person who hurts an innocent animal should be strung up by their toenails and tortured. However, no matter how upset or angry I get, I myself cannot remedy the situation. There is no benefit to sharing the hatred that abusers are already trying to spread.

Perhaps if you feel the need to post these sorts of pictures you could instead use your time in a way that would actually help fix the problem. Research your congressman/woman and see what could be done to introduce harsher punishments for those that abuse animals Maybe you could volunteer as a foster or at a rescue that cares for hurt pets. Have a garage sale to raise money for surgeries needed by these poor fur babies.

There are countless ways that each of us can help. I would encourage everyone to analyze the way that we, as individuals, can most efficiently bring about change. In my opinion, sharing gruesome photos is a waste of time and energy.

This is my personal opinion and I'm aware that some of you will be offended by this. Such is life.

Pre-Westminster Fashion Show 2012

This event was held on Feb 10, 2012 at the beautiful Hotel Pennsylvania in NY. It was a whirlwind trip, but we got to meet great friends (both new and friends we've known through Facebook).

Sophie had a friend who came with us - Dixie Belle the Volunteer Dog and her mom. This was great as the girls got to play together and the moms mostly drank coffee to try and stay awake!

The show was amazing. Sophie wore a custom dress designed by the uber talented Anthony Rubio of Bandit Rubio Designs for the best dressed competition. People were taking pictures of her all night and she did great with the mask on!

We also had time to go to Macy's and do a little shopping, took pictures in the snow and ate real NY hot dogs from a street vendor.

Grain Free Dog Cookie Recipe

For those of you who are interested, here's one of the recipes that I use to make natural, grain free treats for my chihuahuas. This recipe is my own and came about because my youngest Chi is allergic to rice an wheat.

1lb Ground Beef (or any other meat of your choice)
1 cup of peanut butter
3 jars of baby food veggies or fruit
Powdered milk as needed to thicken

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly grease a cookie sheet

I brown the ground beef first. Then add the other ingredients. For this batch I used one jar of strained peas, one jar of pear and one jar of carrot baby food. There's no real science to the powdered milk - you just want a thick cookie dough consistency an I use the powdered milk to thicken. For those of you who don't mind grains you could also use cooked rice or cooked oats instead

Place on a cookie sheet using a small spoon. Bake at 350 degrees for 15-18 minutes. You want a well done cookie

At this point, you can put them in a container and let your babies enjoy. They will keep for 10-14 days. If you'd like for them to last longer you can freeze them or you can put them in a food dehydrator. I dehydrate mine until they are extra crispy. They keep for months after this.


Feel free to play around with this recipe. With the amount of meat and peanut butter you can hide most any fruit or veggie and they won't even taste it

Doggie Decorating

Here at Sophie Grace Boutique we have been decorating our new offices. It's always been important to us to have a great, inspiring space in which to create genius!!! Needless to say, the boring beige walls were not cutting it

While out shopping we found a series of "Canine Couture Magazine" prints that just screamed Designer Doggie Greatness!!

This just goes to show how much our society is changing and how much emphasis people are putting on their "fur babies".

Take heart - we are no longer the crazy dog ladies (and crazy dog men!). Next stop.....total world domination!

Winter Jammies

It's that time of year again - COLD!   I don't know about yours, but my furbabies don't like this weather at all.   A dog's normal body temperature is in the range of 100.5F - 102.5F (much warmer than our 98.5F!).   It's this reason that all dogs, but especially ones with short hair, need extra warmth through the winter.  

At my house, we ALL wear pajamas! 

Here's little momma (Sophie) right before bed.   :)   I know not all of you believe in dressing up your dogs, but trust me they will thank you when their little bellies are nice and warm!
